I photographed my first wedding this past Monday. I can’t believe that milestone has come and gone in my photography experience; it’s a bit bittersweet. All the planning, preparation, and communication are the “firsts” that I will use to build my career and hopefully improve along the way. I cannot express in words how the confidence that Aspen and Marcus had in me fueled my passion for photography and everything that goes along with it. During the day on Monday, I was not taking pictures for myself, I was capturing moments for Aspen and Marcus that will hopefully evoke love and rememberence of a beautiful day in May when they became husband and wife.
Aspen and Marcus are an AMAZING couple. I know I’ve said it a few times on Facebook, but they truly are:) When I first met them, they were just arriving at the Cedar House Inn and waiting for Ms. Cyndi, the innkeeper, to walk them through the day. I cannot express how wonderful Ms. Cyndi Humphrey is! She is a very genunine, accomodating, and all around friendly individual. She led Marcus and Aspen to the rooms where they were getting ready and that was the last moment where they saw each other before the ceremony. I spent a few moments with each of them before the ceremony, taking pictures and talking about how they felt about each other. At one point I asked Marcus if he had anything that was special to him, he immediately pulled out his wallet to show me a picture of him and Aspen. He explained that this picture was taken when he had taken her out to a restaurant and they were just being silly the whole time. He said that with Aspen, he was in love with her from the moment he met her, but at that moment among others, he wanted to be with her for the rest of his life . When I went to see Aspen, she had a special person visiting her-her mom! Aspen and Marcus were originally eloping and did not have any guests with them, but her mom drove down to surprise her with herself and a bouquet of white lilies. Aspen looked truly amazing walking down the stairs to meet her soon to be husband, beaming from ear to ear.
After cake and champagne, I whisked the couple off on their whirlwind walking photo tour of St. Augustine. Everywhere we went downtown, people were congratulating them and telling them how beautiful and handsome they looked! I love St. Augustine for that reason. The people who live here and the visit here are extremely welcoming to brides and grooms!
I knew that as I watched them ride away in their carriage, that day would resonate in their minds for the rest of their lives, as well as mine. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to photograph their wedding. Enjoy!
